Born as Auto Centrale Utrecht, this former auto repair shop was squatted in 1976 and has been a cornerstone of Utrecht's alternative culture ever since. ACU remains true to its squat roots while hosting a diverse program of concerts, parties, and community events, playing an important role in the city's underground scene for nearly five decades.
The venue is renowned for its punk, pop-punk, hardcore, and emo shows featuring both local and international acts. Recent programming includes bands like 32elephants, Pluto The Racer, and Garden Walk, delivering high-energy performances with stage dives and singalongs. Most shows start around 20:00 with affordable entry fees of €10-12, keeping live music accessible to all.
Beyond live bands, ACU hosts electronic events like Cruise Control, a queer electronic party, and other DJ nights. These parties embrace inclusivity and create safe spaces for the LGBTQ+ community while keeping entry accessible at around €5, maintaining the venue's commitment to affordable cultural access.

ACU hosts rotating art exhibitions in the bar, lectures on activism and animal rights, food rescue initiatives combating waste, and Sunday sessions like The Barricade with donation-based entry.
